MANUFACTURING

Our knitwear collection is manufactured in Los Angeles by a small family-operated factory, with whom we have established close working and personal relationships throughout our development and production phase. Domestic manufacturing is very important to us as it fosters a healthy local economy, minimizes our carbon footprint, contributes less to pollution, and affords employees better protection under stricter USA worker laws.

Traceability

Knitting Manufacturer, Los Angeles

Our knitwear maker has been in business since 1991, making some of the highest quality knitwear in America. They are one of the remaining premier knitwear manufacturers in the United States. Every garment is ethically made in-house in their small family-owned factory.

In house processes: Automatic knitting, hand-loom, hand-linking, sewing, finishing, quality control.

Cashmere Treatment

The way our cashmere is treated helps preserve its longevity. In short, it is washed fewer times with less softener. Most of the world's highest quality cashmere does not start off overly soft to the touch – it softens over time. Because consumers buy cashmere based on “hand-feel", manufacturers run extra wash cycles at hotter temperatures with more softener, to create the softness we are all familiar with. This reduces the life of the cashmere garment, so beware of cashmere that feels unbelievably soft. Our cashmere is washed less at lower temperature. This makes the hand-feel not as soft (at first touch), but your garment will pill less and have a longer life.

Variability

Please remember that some of our products may show differences in finishes that do not necessarily indicate defectiveness. Such differences are inherent in the manufacturing of products partially made by hand (e.g. linking, finishing like buttons and garment tags), so you may expect that there will be minor distinctions that will make your purchase unique.

Lastly, please note that we reserve the right to alter minor details of the products featured on this site and in other informational materials we provide in the interest of maintaining product quality and design integrity. Accordingly, products shipped to you may differ slightly from those depicted on this site or in such materials.

Mill

Our Tuscan spinning mill is one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-end creative knitwear yarn, with a dedication to traceability and transparency in the manufacturing and sourcing process. The mill has made sustainability a true part of their mission, investing in and undertaking complex processes to create innovative textile solutions led by ethical and sustainable values. The mill has one of the highest rating on the HIGG Index for yarn suppliers.

Yarn

95% cashmere (70% reborn cashmere, 30% virgin cashmere) and 5% extra-fine merino wool. The wool Is essential to hold the recycled fibers together (which are shorter due to the recycling process) and to maintain structure.

The Recycling Process

1. Inspection: First, incoming cashmere is tested to ensure it is pure —cashmere blends are discarded. Then, it is separated into panels to be sorted by color. This is not as simple as it sounds and takes a significant degree of careful training.

2. Color separation and processing: Next, cashmere passing the quality test is sorted into bins by color and prepared for cleaning, dying and spinning.

3. Shredding: Panels are then passed through a machine which shreds them back into fiber form.

4. Rebirth: Next, the fibers are cleaned, re-dyed and spun back into yarn.

5. Finishing: Finished yarn is spun into cones ready to be used in a new garment.

Certificates

Our cashmere is GRS (Global Recycle Standard) and RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) certified.
